Notifications
INFO
For help, ask in #help on our Discord or open an issue on GitHub. Please add what you tried and what the setup page or docker logs wa-classic shows.
WA Classic notifies you about new messages and calls even when the iPhone is locked and the app is closed, with sound and a banner.
How it works
iOS 4 to 6 has no modern push service for apps like this. WA Classic uses what Skype and other call apps used back then: it may keep one quiet connection to your bridge in the background. When a message arrives, the bridge sends it down that connection, and iOS wakes WA Classic for a second to show the notification.
- It uses very little battery, because the connection only wakes up when something happens.
- It keeps working after you close WA Classic in the app switcher.
- Muted chats don't wake the iPhone.
Things to know
WARNING
After installing or updating WA Classic, open it once. iOS doesn't start it in the background by itself after an update.
WARNING
On iPhones with a tethered jailbreak, open WA Classic once after every restart, for the same reason.
- While the computer with the bridge sleeps, nothing arrives. The messages come as soon as it wakes up.
- Away from home, notifications need the port forwarding.
- No banners at all, only the badge on the icon? Check Settings › Notifications › WA Classic on the iPhone.
