FAQ
Is WA Classic free?
Yes. No subscription, no ads, nothing to buy. The app and the bridge are open source under the GPL-3.0.
Can my account be banned?
It can. WA Classic is an unofficial client, and using it may break WhatsApp's terms of service.
Does my phone have to stay on?
No. WA Classic is linked like WhatsApp Web, so your phone can be off. It only has to come online about every two weeks, or WhatsApp unlinks the bridge.
Can several old iPhones use one bridge?
Yes. Link each of them with its own setup code.
Does it work on an iPod touch?
Yes, on the iPod touch 3rd, 4th and 5th generation with iOS 4.3 to 6, over Wi-Fi. See what you need.
Not on the 8 GB iPod touch sold as 3rd generation (model number MC086): it's a 2nd generation inside and stops at iOS 4.2.1. The 32 and 64 GB models are fine.
Does it do video calls?
Not yet. Video calls are in development, but they are hard to get right. See Video calls.
What's different from the real WhatsApp?
WA Classic is a linked device in the look of 2013. Most everyday things work, some newer ones don't. See Differences to WhatsApp.
Does it work on iOS 7 to 10?
Not yet. A version for iOS 7 to 10 is coming soon.
Who made WA Classic?
aronsz26, with Claude Code, the coding assistant by Anthropic. WA Classic is not affiliated with or endorsed by Anthropic, WhatsApp or Meta.
