How it works
The old WhatsApp app can't connect anymore. WA Classic uses a small program, the bridge, that runs on a computer in your home and is linked to your WhatsApp account like WhatsApp Web.
Your phone Your bridge Your old iPhone
WhatsApp <----> Mac, PC, Pi or NAS <----> WA Classic
at home- Your iPhone only ever talks to your own bridge. No one else's server is in between.
- At home the iPhone reaches the bridge over your Wi-Fi.
- Away from home it connects through the internet, encrypted, and only accepts your own bridge's certificate. See Away from home.
- The app comes from the Cydia source
http://cydia.waclassic.com. The bridge is a Cydia source too, as a backup. - The bridge converts photos, videos and voice messages so the old iPhone can play them.
WARNING
Because the bridge has to read your messages to show them on the old iPhone, they are stored unencrypted on that computer.
